The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) have published a report into the economic impact of sport in Australia. This was commissioned in anticipation of an Australian Government review of sports funding. The report, prepared by Frontier (Australia), shows that there are benefits to society (over and above those accruing to private parties) from both community and elite sport. Community sport improves health, and there is added value from the contribution of volunteer labour. The main benefit derived from elite sport is satisfaction from national success at sporting events.

The report helped the ASC shape its response to the Government’s review, and drew attention to several shortcomings in the Government's approach.  Frontier has been invited to present its findings at the ASC’s biennial conference in late July.
